READ Alliance improves the educational trajectory of New York City elementary students through tutoring in foundational reading skills. Since READ Alliance’s founding in 1999, more than 13,000 early elementary students have benefitted from its signature program, a one-to-one model delivered by trained teen-aged tutors. After just one program cycle, students who receive the intervention achieve more than a full year’s growth in reading skills as outlined in the Common Core learning standards.
